4. How long does the treatment take and how long will I have to do without a tooth?Every patient can feel assured that they will have the missing tooth replacedwith a provisional one immediately after the implant has been placed. Owing to this, none of our patients will be without a tooth at any time. It is sometimes possible to install a permanent tooth on an implant instead of a provisional one on the day of the procedure. This, however, requires the bone to be in the right condition, which occurs in about 30-40% of all implant placing surgeries. In order to install fixed provisional teeth we sometimes apply special thin temporary implants anchored to the jaw between the final implants. Those extra tiny screws make it possible to attach teeth even though the bone is in poor condition. They also facilitate the process of healing and protect the postoperative wound. The time limit for the fabrication and placement of the final implant-supported porcelain tooth depends on the procedures performed during the implant placing stage (e.g. the eventuality of the bone restoration procedure lengthens the whole process). In most cases, final porcelain crowns are affixed 3-6 months after placing the implants, and the patient usually needs 2-4 visits. |
